"This book is the story of my journey through life — both the pitfalls and successes. It takes considerable hubris to write your life story and more to publish the results with the expectation that someone will read it and find it interesting. Hopefully, my story is sufficiently persuasive to convince readers to consider a meaningful engagement with the ideas and concepts offered in the book. What we read contributes to our understanding of humanity. The thoughts and events discussed in this book have been percolating in my mind all my life.
In writing this book, I’m following Henry David Thoreau’s guidance: the reason he wrote so much about himself was because he was the one he knew the best! Therefore, A Leaf in a Stream is autobiographical; essays on events in my life that were important and meaningful to me. I’m observing life from the vantage point of almost eight decades.
Buried in the following prose are hopefully some bits of philosophy and pieces of wisdom that will resonate with the reader. I also assume my grandchildren might learn something about their grandfather as well as absorb some life lessons."
